Summoned

My wife was 200 miles away at home with our 5 year old son while I sat up with my terminally ill mother late into the night. By her choice, she wasn’t in a hospital. Suddenly, she mumbled something incoherently; eyes unfocused, far away. Then the phone rang. My wife asked “What just happened?” She said she’d been awakened by what she thought was our son standing in the semi darkness at the foot of our bed. When he didn’t answer, she turned on the light. He wasn’t there, but asleep in his room. She arrived with our son 5 hours later. Exhausted, she went to bed. 3 hours later, my mother passed away.
